Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) Information: History and Facilities
Steeped in history and originally named Boston Airport, the Logan Airport of today dates back to the early 1920s and opened its gates in 1923, when it was used mainly by the local Massachusetts Air Guard. Within four years, regular flights were running to New York and over the years, much expansion has been necessary, using landfill sites on the adjacent Boston Harbor. In 1956, Boston Airport was renamed as the General Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport (BOS), honoring a local war hero.

Present-day facilities at Logan International Airport are excellent. Onsite, passengers have a choice of more than 40 food and beverage outlets, including Bella Boston, Cibo Express, Gourmet On The Fly, Killian's Boston Pub and the Legal Sea Foods Cafe, where traditional clam chowder is a firm favorite. There are also around 30 shops on hand for last-minute purchases, such as Airport Wireless, Bijoux Terner, Johnston & Murphy, Landau, Newslink and New England Collections, selling many Boston collectibles.

Other facilities at Boston Logan Airport include a 'Meals to Fly' service, where you can purchase freshly prepared gourmet food to enjoy on your flight. There are also spa services and hair salons for those in need of pampering, public access to the Internet operated by Verizon, many nearby hotels and conference centers, and cash machines, which are provided by the Bank of America, Citizens Bank of Massachusetts and Travelex. For art lovers, a visit to the airport's Metropolitan Museum of Art Experience is a must and this attraction can be found within the Main Retail Court.
